Horse Event closes with sold out Sunday
It was a turbulent weekend for the organization of Horse Event 2017. After prolonged heavy rainfall, the wet field of Horse Event on Saturday became inaccessible. It stopped raining on Saturday around 11.00 o’clock and after the installation of thousands of meters of wooden planks, the third day of the event could continue. The sixteenth edition ended with a sold-out Sunday, bringing the total to 25,000 visitors instead of the intended 42,500.
The final act of Clémence Faivre was one of the many highlights in the all-round program. With her new show horse Fuego, she gave the audience a breathtaking show. The well-known Shadow from the movie Penny’s Shadow said goodbye to the public. The Dutch army, which is part of the equestrian sport, presented itself with horses, guns and weapons in the Defense Village and various arenas. VHL Stables from Asten, The Netherlands was chosen as the Hippic Entrepreneur of the year during the Entrepreneurs’ Congress. Striking was the ever-increasing popularity of several Vloggers and YouTubers, who first came together in their own YouTube Arena.
“The decision we were forced to take on Friday night is a real nightmare,” said organizer Gijs Bartels. “We have been working all week to be prepared for the heavy rainfall. Unfortunately, again on Friday night, the weather let us down. More than 50 mm fell within three hours, which turned the whole site into one large pond. In the middle of the night we started the emergency scenario with our team, which has been done extremely quickly and well. Saturday ticket tickets were refunded to all buyers. On Sunday there was hardly anything left to see of the huge ravage that the weather had caused. In spite of the financial strap, we are closing off with a good feeling.”
